A plan opens only for the advisor who built it, so until shared financial-plan chats land, send a colleague the PDF. See Access and availability.
Exporting the PDF
Export PDF sits in the plan’s top bar, in the chat plan view and on the household Financial Planning tab alike. It exports the version you are reading, older versions included, and the file arrives named after the plan and its version number. What the PDF carries:- A cover masthead: plan title, who it was built for, the date and the version number.
- Every section in order, laid out for print, every chart and table drawn, tabs and priority cards opened out.
- The controls you can move on screen, under a Plan settings heading, at published values.
- Recommendations with their recorded decision in place of their buttons. An undecided one prints “Pending review”, so settle those first.
- Your firm’s disclaimer, verbatim, as the footer.
- Interactivity. The first page says so.
- The detail behind each figure. Sources, methodology, the numbered assumptions and the Appendix stay in the on-screen panels, and a card whose controls only Hazel can re-solve prints no settings. For an assumption the client needs to see, ask Hazel to state it in the plan itself, which prints.
Export PDF grayed out? You have unsaved changes. Press Save in the bar at the bottom of the plan, or Discard, and the button comes back.Moving a slider, a switch or a row of option buttons is not an unsaved change and never blocks the export. Reordering cards is the exception: that drag stages a change and holds the export until you save or discard it.
If the export fails
For that last one, open the plan in its chat: if it will not display, Hazel offers a card headed “This plan needs Hazel’s help” with Ask Hazel to repair plan. Press it, then export the fresh version. From the household Financial Planning tab, press Open chat in the top bar first.
Presenting live
1
Open Plan orientation before you walk in
The info button in the plan’s top bar, immediately left of Export PDF, opens a short brief on what the plan concludes and why, stamped with the version it describes. No info button means this version has no brief: read the Summary section, or ask Hazel in chat for a two-line brief.
2
Open on the Summary, then go to the decision
The narrative and the Success gauge. Let them read it, then open the section that answers the question they arrived with.
3
Use levers when they ask a what-if
Move the control and let them watch. Every figure wired to it recomputes as you drag; anything it does not feed stays where the plan published it, and only Range of outcomes and Mix comparison say when they are holding the published scenario. Name the figures that are answering the question.
4
Record what they chose, before you leave
A moved control springs back to the published value when the page reloads. To keep it, press Approve on the recommendation those controls sit with, then Save in the bar at the bottom. See Levers and scenarios.Controls with no recommendation have no Approve, so ask Hazel for those changes in the plan’s chat before you leave; from the household Financial Planning tab, Open chat takes you there. Then export the version you agreed on, not the one you walked in with.
Two firm-wide rules
The display ceiling. A projection where every simulated path succeeds computes as 100%, which a client reads as a promise, so plans cap the probability of success they print. Above the ceiling the figure shows as>99%, with a line beneath saying the display is capped. The ceiling starts at 99%, your firm can set its own, and 100% switches the cap off. It is one figure for the whole firm, applies wherever that figure appears including your own screen, and changes only the display: the plan keeps the modeled figure underneath.
The disclaimer. Whatever your firm saves as its disclaimer renders under every plan exactly as written, on screen and in the PDF. It lives in Settings → Planning, on the Client disclaimer card, marked firm-wide. Planning settings belong to the firm owner, so if you cannot see Planning, ask whoever owns your firm’s account to set it.
Where to go next
- Versions and regenerating
- Where numbers come from: the audit worth running before you export.
- Best practices: the review-meeting workflow end to end.
