# Arching & Rebuilding

## Archiving: when something ends

Accounts close, goals get reached, policies lapse. Hover a record and click the archive icon: **Archive** works on any record ("Mark completed" appears on goals). Archived records move to the **Archive** view ("Archived data does not populate your client's profile."), grouped by when they were archived, still fully readable with their sources and history. **Unarchive** brings one back.

Hazel can archive too, when a client says something ended; click the badge on an archived record to see why. The reverse also happens: if a later meeting or document shows something is active again, Hazel brings the record back. Archives follow the most recent statement, just like values.

## Removing: when something was never true

If a record was never true at all (misheard, or a hypothetical that slipped through), **remove** it instead of archiving. Removal is for things that never existed: Hazel asks you to confirm, and unlike archiving it's permanent. The record disappears entirely rather than moving to the Archive.

  Rule of thumb: **ended → Archive. Never existed → Remove.** When in doubt, archive; you can always remove later, but not the reverse.

## Rebuilding a profile

If a profile has gone wrong in a way that spot-fixes can't repair, **Rebuild profile** (at the bottom of the Data tab's left rail) erases everything Hazel currently knows and relearns it from the client's meetings and uploaded documents, oldest to newest. Because the replay runs in order, each pass builds on the last, the same way the profile would have grown originally.

  Rebuilding is a hard reset: it erases your manual edits and verifications, empties the Archive, and facts that came only from **emails or notes** are not relearned. The confirmation asks you to acknowledge this before it starts. Use it as a last resort; for one wrong value, **Edit** is the right tool.

One good use for it: a long-standing client whose profile is still new. On an empty profile there's nothing to lose, and a rebuild replays the household's full recorded meeting history plus every uploaded document, so years of context file in at once.
