How to step through a plan's history, which buttons create a version, and when to regenerate. You will change a plan several times before a client sees it. A plan belongs to the chat that built it, that chat keeps every version, and each accepted change publishes the next one on top. An older version stays readable, presentable and exportable, but it cannot become current again: there is no Restore button. To put something back, tell Hazel in the plan's chat what you want restored, and it returns as a new version on top. ## Moving through the history With two or more versions, arrows appear either side of the number and the label reads V3 (2 of 4): the version, then your position in the stack. One version shows a plain V1 badge. The number counts stored versions only, so it stays put while edits are in progress; the **N unsaved** badge beside it is your staged work. While you read an older version the top bar turns orange, names the version, marks it read-only, and offers **Back to latest**, which returns you to the current plan as you left it. There is no split-screen compare, so ask Hazel in the plan's chat what changed between versions. ### What still works in an older version Tabs, priority selection and the levers stay live, so you can present an older version freely. The grips that reorder goal cards go inert. **Export PDF** downloads the version you are reading as published, so lever positions you moved on screen are not in it. Gone: the staging bar, the editing pencils, and, in the chat view, the **Edit** button. **Approve** and **Ignore** stay but gray out. Press **Back to latest** first to make a change. ## What creates a version | What you do | Creates a version | | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Save** in the staging bar | Yes. The whole queued batch becomes one version | | Asking Hazel for a change in the plan's chat, **Regenerate** on the household's Financial Planning tab, or **Apply and replan** in the chat view's Plan settings panel | Yes, once Hazel publishes | | **Queue change** on an assumption, or **Use this** on a question card whose value you changed | No. It waits for **Recalculate** | | **Approve** or **Ignore** on a recommendation | No. Your decision lands straight away, commits with your next **Save**, and never joins the queue | | **Looks right** on a question card, or dragging goal cards into a different order | No on its own. It stages like an edit and commits with your next **Save** | | Moving a lever that is a number, a toggle or a choice | No. That kind of lever is a way of looking at the plan and stores nothing | | Asking Hazel a question that changes nothing | No | | **Discard** | No. It clears your staged text edits and queued changes | Press **Recalculate** with text edits still unsaved and you get two versions: Hazel saves your edits first, then publishes the recalculated plan. If approving a recommendation would move the plan's numbers, **Approve** marks the card decided but stages nothing, and the decision is gone when you reload. Ask for that change in the plan's chat instead. If Hazel publishes a version while you have changes staged, the staging bar offers only **Discard my changes**. See [Editing a plan directly](/guides/financial-planning/the-plan/editing-a-plan-directly). ## Regenerate compared with asking for a change **Regenerate** sits in the top bar of the household's **Financial Planning** tab, beside **Open chat**, not in the plan's chat view. On the sample household it reads **Draft a financial plan**, which starts one for a client of your own. The button grays out while Hazel is already working on this plan, reading "Plan update in progress", and "Regenerating…" while it runs the full drafting workflow, so give it several minutes. If nothing is published, Hazel says the plan was not regenerated and you stay on the version you had. Hazel revises the plan you have, leaving alone everything you did not mention. Faster, surgical, and right for almost everything. Hazel rereads the household's profile and documents, folds what is new into the plan, and publishes it as the next version. Slower, and it revisits everything the new information touches. ### When to regenerate * **New data landed.** A document the plan said it was missing reached the household profile. * **The household's situation changed materially.** A job change, an inheritance, a death, a divorce. * **Your firm changed its Plan templates** and you want this household on the new shape. ### When not to regenerate * A number is wrong. Fix the data or the assumption behind it. * A chart is wrong, or the plan reads long. Ask for the chart you want, or for a tighter draft. * **The wrong persona was matched.** Regenerate carries no instructions from you, so open the plan's chat, name the persona you want, and ask Hazel to rebuild against it. A regenerate uses your firm's settings as they stand today. If the base template, a persona or an assumption has changed since the plan was built, the rebuilt plan picks that up, and its shape or numbers can move for reasons unrelated to this household. Check [Planning settings](/guides/financial-planning/settings/overview) before you regenerate a plan going out today. ## What a regenerate keeps * **The version history.** A regenerate lands as a new version on top. * **Your wording.** Hazel is asked to preserve still-valid analysis and what you wrote. Wording the new information has made untrue can still change. * **Any assumptions you overrode for this plan.** To drop one, open **Plan settings** from the plan's chat view and use the small reset control on that field, which restores your firm's or the persona's value. A recalculation is stricter with your prose: Hazel is asked to keep your sentences as written and to say when something no longer matches rather than rewrite it. A figure inside one of your sentences follows the new numbers either way. ## Staying in one plan A household can hold as many plans as you want: a second planning chat gives you a second plan, not a new version of the first. The household's **Financial Planning** tab shows whichever plan published most recently. On the **Financial Planning** page, a row opens that household's tab, which shows the newest plan whichever row you clicked. To reach an older plan, open its own chat in Ask Hazel. Plans are owner-scoped for now, so a colleague's plans do not appear on your Financial Planning tab and a household that looks planless to you may not be. Ask them to open theirs.
